Bile, a fluid made in the liver that is important in the digestion of fats, is not necessarily toxic if it comes in contact with other body parts, but it can be irritating and possibly cause problems. Bile is one of the few substances in the body that is not sterile; it can contain small amounts of bacteria that may lead to infection if bile leaks into areas of the body it is not meant to be.
