The diagnosis of gallbladder disease starts with getting the history of the condition and then performing a physical exam. After these things are done, your doctor may order lab and imaging tests to help him or her make a more precise diagnosis.
Ultrasound is the most widely used test for diagnosing gallbladder disease. If your doctor suspects you might have gallstones or another gallbladder problem, the ultrasound images will be focused on the upper right quadrant of your abdomen, where your gallbladder is located. In some cases, your doctor may also order tests to check the function of the liver and pancreas and rule out problems with those organs.
