What should I know about NeoTect before receiving it?

NeoTect is a radioactive medication (technetium Tc 99m depreotide) and should only be administered by trained healthcare professionals. Caution should be used to minimize radiation exposure. Make sure your doctor knows if you have had a past allergic reaction to NeoTect or similar medications. Drink at least eight ounces of water before getting NeoTect to increase urination and stop the bladder from absorbing too much radiation. For 12 hours after having the test, you also should take the following steps to minimize radiation exposure for yourself and others: Use a toilet, instead of a urinal. After use, flush the toilet a few times. Any spilled urine should be cleaned up right away. Thoroughly wash your hands after each time you use the bathroom. Any clothes that are soiled with urine or feces should be washed separately from other laundry.
