How can I minimize the side effects of Xarelto?

The best way to minimize a bleeding complication -- the most common side effect of Xarelto (rivaroxaban) -- is to be on the lookout for unexpected bleeding or bleeding that lasts a long time. Call your doctor if you notice any of these signs:
  • frequent nose bleeds
  • bleeding gums
  • vaginal bleeding or heavy menstrual bleeding
  • red, pink or brown urine
  • bright red or black, tarry stool
  • vomiting blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  • coughing up blood or blood clots
  • headache
  • dizziness 
  • weakness
  • pain, swelling or new drainage from a wound or incision that hasn't healed
