I love to stock the pantry with stevia. And whether it's in a powdered form or a liquid form, it's actually 200 times sweeter than sugar.
So, just a tiny, little bit, like a dab, will do ya. [MUSIC PLAYING]
The first step that I like to do when making my house a more diabetes-friendly place to be able to cook healthy, wholesome, nutritious food,
the first place I like to start is in the pantry. And I like to take out all the processed foods and, you know, the white refined flours and the white sugars
that have no business being really in anyone's household, let alone a person living with type 1 or type 2 diabetes. And I try to fill it with alternative flours
and sweeteners. For example, if we're talking sugar, I love to stock the pantry with stevia. And whether it's in a powdered form or a liquid form,
it's actually 200 times sweeter than sugar. So, just a tiny little bit, like a dab, will do ya. Same thing with like the white flours,
the cake flours, the all purpose flours. Get rid of it, and just fill it with the high antioxidant flours, such as, like, a coconut flour and almond flour.
I'm a huge fan of chickpea flour, fava bean flour, artichoke flour. The list can go on. There's so many different alternative things
out there for us who are living with diabetes, who are trying to take our health and wellness to the next level. Same thing with dairy and the different cheeses.
I like to swap out all of the whole milks and the 2% milks. There's a really great yogurt probiotic cheese that you can put in your refrigerator.
There's nut cheeses. There's different hemp milks and oat milks. Hemp milk is actually lower in carbohydrates, lower in sugar
than-- and higher in protein than a regular whole milk. Those are the types of things that I like to do. It's really just about taking a bird's eye view,
stepping back, and then getting rid of all that stuff that you don't need and just replenishing with the heart healthy stuff that you do need. [AUDIO LOGO]
