Dx Dialogues: The importance of comprehensive testing in oncology
Sanjay Juneja, MD, explains how comprehensive testing is helpful in identifying tumor-agnostic mutations.
Transcript
Recent multicenter studies show that comprehensive testing identifies actionable findings in a significant portion
of patients with advanced cancers. [CASUAL MUSIC]
So when we say advanced, we usually mean you're not going for curative intent. And when you do comprehensive testing,
you can get molecular features or mutations or targets that can increase your therapeutic options.
We finally have mutations that are called tumor-agnostic, meaning it doesn't even matter if it's found in a breast cancer versus a colon versus a pancreatic.
And you could potentially have a treatment if you have that mutation, regardless of the cancer type. This is what makes comprehensive profiling and molecular analysis
so important. When it comes to somatic testing, the guidelines even say for any stage IV cancer that they recommend comprehensive profiling
over single gene testing. [AUDIO LOGO]
