No one in my family has ever had cancer. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and it pretty much devastated my world.

I work in the cancer center. I am a program coordinator here at Emory Decatur Hospital. I run a program called Look Good, Feel Better.
I help facilitate them with wigs and makeup as your skin and hair is changing. Self breast exams are extremely important.
If I hadn't noticed the dimple that was in my right breast, I maybe would have missed my mammogram because the year
prior to, it was clear. It was fine. And it ended up being something. Mammograms save lives.
I don't know that I'd still be here without mine. I have three children. We just lost my son, my only son, in a car accident.
So death was not about to win again. I went through my chemo first, prior to surgery.
I had a double mastectomy. But I knew I had to make up my mind what I was going to do.
And of course, I chose to fight. But if you're going to live and you want to make a difference for your family,
you have to make up your mind to fight. Survival is happening all over the place.
People are thriving. They're living. There they're beating this thing. And that's a wonderful place to be.
