You know about the operation. But that's not where we start. You have to get to the point where
you have to decide if you're a candidate for this operation. So now what I'm going to try to do is just tell you, OK,
how can you know when you're a candidate? First of all, you have to know your BMI.
Know your number. The BMI actually tells us what your weight to your height
is as far as your healthy well-being. We actually do some math, which I know a lot of you are scared of math.
But we're going to do some math. We have weight divided by your height. And that gives us a number.
Now, when your number is 25, you are considered overweight.
When your number becomes 30, you are considered to be in phase one or level one of obesity.
If your BMI goes to 35, you're in level two of obesity.
And if your BMI goes to 40, you are in the morbidly obese category. And that's stage three.
And that means your life is in danger if you don't do something very soon. So what is your number?
If your number is 35, at least 35, and you have diabetes, sleep apnea,
arthritis, if you are having these kind of things that we call comorbidities or signs that your life could
be in danger, 35 or greater, guess what, you are a candidate for weight loss surgery.
Now, if your BMI is 40 and you don't have any of these comorbidities, you
are a candidate for surgery. So you have to understand that it's by your number. And you have to know your number.
If your number is 35 and you have diabetes, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis,
you are a candidate. But also, if your BMI is higher than 40, then you also are a candidate, even though you don't
have any of these problems yet. So that is where you start as far as,
