    A number of studies have been conducted but most have limitations as regard the number of patients studied and the use of probiotic species differed in these studies. Some studies suggest IBS symptom improvement with probiotic treatment. Several types of probiotics are available for treatment of IBS including Bifidobacteria and Lactobacilli. Probiotic formulation may vary in respect to the species, strain, and dose, and some may have a combination of species and strains.
