Breath odor in type 2 diabetes may be caused by the diabetes or by dental problems.  Poor dental health with diabetes can leave you at risk for tooth decay and gum disease. When these conditions worsen, you may have tooth infections, abscesses and gum infections. These infections may cause a bad taste in your mouth and a bad odor, too. You can taste the infection from the tooth or gum when you swallow. If you have any signs of bad breath that's related to a dental problem, call your dentist. Getting treatment for dental infections is imperative to avoid more serious procedures such as tooth removal. Your dentist can help you find answers for breath odor with type 2 diabetes.
