Yellow tongue affects children or infants just as it affects adults. Since yellow tongue can be caused by the growth of certain bacteria in the mouth, anyone at any age is susceptible, if conditions are right. However, adults are probably more likely to get yellow tongue, since all of the things that can contribute to yellow tongue, such as poor oral hygiene, smoking, and liver and gall bladder disease, are more likely to occur over time.
In rare cases, children and infants can have jaundice caused by liver or gallbladder problems, which also causes yellow tongue.
Also, children may get yellow tongue from changes in the normal bacteria or yeast content of the mouth following antibiotic use.
