There are different types of eye infections, affecting different parts of the eye. They include:
- Conjunctivits-Affects the conjunctiva, the mucous membrane that covers your inner eyelids and the thin membrane covering the eye.
- Uveitis-An inflammation of the uvea. The uvea is composed of three sections: the iris (the colored portion of the eye that surrounds the pupil), the ciliary body (the muscle behind the iris that helps change the shape of the lens to focus light on the retina), and the choroid layer (lining of the eye that contains blood vessels).
- AIDS-related cytomegalovirus retinitis (CMV retinitis)-CMV retinitis is caused by an impaired immune system that makes the eye vulnerable to a variety of eye infections.
