What Makes Someone a Good Candidate to Be a Liver Donor?

Read Transcript

In order to be a liver donor you have to be in excellent physical condition and have no liver disease. It's important to have no liver disease because one, your own health could be at risk and two we wouldn't want to give a liver that had some problem to the recipient. So we'd take the living donors between the age of 18 and 60 who are in excellent physical condition, and then subject them to extensive testing, to make sure both their liver is healthy, and two that the rest of them is healthy and able to sustain a larger operation.
