Early on diabetes can be controlled with nutrition intervention alone. However, it is important to keep in mind that even at advanced stages, nutrition intervention is very important to avoid high blood sugars and low blood sugars. So what is usually recommended, as far as the diet goes or nutrition regimen goes, is a diet that is rich in lean protein, but poor in sugars and refined starches as well as fat.

Refined starches and sugars such as fruit juice or candy obviously raise the blood sugar and fat increases insulin resistance in the body. So what we typically recommend is a diet that is consisted of frequent small meals, with the lean protein and vegatables.
