Astragalus is a great remedy for boosting immunity; it also has a mild antimicrobial effect, which helps fight infections. Watch as acupuncturist and herbalist Mary Sabo explains how it works, and why taking it in tincture form is most effective.
Astragalus I give to my patients when they get tired and run down and they pick up every bug or cold that comes along. It helps boost our immune system and it does this by prolonging the life of the cells that help us fight off infection. It also have a mild anti-microbial effect, so it helps us fight infection in several different ways.
A lot of my patients like to take astragalus in a liquid form which we call a tincha and you can take 30 drops, that's about a quarter tea spoon or half a drop or full, and you can take that right into your mouth on your tongue or you can put it in water and take it like that.
And I recommend doing that in the morning and then again in the evening, so twice a day to boost your immunity.
