What Are the Health Benefits of the DASH Diet?

The DASH diet was originally developed to help people lower their blood pressure without medication, then it was also found that it lowered cholesterol. When they went to really long term studies, they found though that people who followed the DASH diet for long periods of time had lower risks of stroke, heart attack, kidney stones, several types of cancer, they were less likely to develop diabetes, so there were a whole host of benefits, the DASH diet really is an extremely healthy plan.

The big benefit for the DASH diet is high blood pressure lowering, and that's something that over 70 million Americans are dealing with, so clearly it's a really important thing, and it's even in the treatment guidelines for people with high blood pressure. Physicians are supposed to tell their patients that they should adopt DASH diet as part of their blood pressure lowering practices.
