The brain is a bit like a muscle, and when you exercise it it gets stronger and it becomes more efficient but you don't want to over do any one exercise. You want to cross train your brain because if you keep doing the same thing over and over again your brain gets bored and it's not interested in doing those exercises.

So one day you might want to do word games that exercise your left brain. The next day you may want to do visual puzzles maybe jigsaw puzzles to exercise your right brain and also make sure the games are fun and challenging but not too challenging and not too easy so you want to train but not strain your brain.
