How Is Binge Eating Disorder Diagnosed?

When a patient comes into my office, I try to ask them a few questions which is a part if they actually have binge eating disorder, or if it's more just overeating out of lack of knowledge, or in social situations that type of thing. Binge eating disorder is specific because a person feels very out of control while they're eating as if they cannot stop even if they wanted to.

There's also a sense that after the eating people feel an intense sense of guilt and shame. People who overeat at thanksgiving say or overeat in a big party typically don't feel that shame that a binge eating disorder would. So loss of control and feelings of shame after are the two defining characteristics of the binge eating disorder.
