Where to Store Your Vitamins

Read Transcript

Hi, Dr. Kevin Soden here with a health tip you might not know about. Ironically, your medicine cabinet might not be the best place to store your supplements. Research shows that steamy, hot spots like your bathroom or kitchen can degrade some Vitamins in as little as one week. In one study, scientist tracked two Vitamin C powders at variety of temperatures and humidity levels.

The Vitamins were fine in a desert dry, no humidity environment, but in hot and moist conditions, the Ascorbic Acid found in Vitamin C supplement lost 90% of its potency in only eight weeks. The medicine cabinet in your bathroom with the pill shelf in your kitchen can get hot and humid enough to harm your supplements.

Instead, relocate your pills to a cool, dry spot, and if you see any brown spots or discoloration, it's time to toss the pills and start over. For more ways to watch your health, check out all our smart tips, right here.
