How Can I Avoid Medication Errors While I'm In a Hospital?

Read Transcript

Avoiding medication errors in a hospital is a very big issue for patients. There're two things to avoid. Avoid interrupting nurses when they're delivering you your medications. In addition as a patient yourself, or a family member of a patient. I'd be feeling powered to ask what the medication is after delivery times.

So when nurse comes to your bedside, make sure that the nurse is looking at your armband or your family members armbands, make sure that you're asking what medications it is, what medications are they actually giving you and make sure it's the right time. So it has to be the right medication, the right time, and the right dose.

Those are three things that you should feel empowered as a patient or family member of a patient to ask the nurse, and the nurse would be happy to share that information with you.
