If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram, you have seen that I am just as dedicated to training my brain as I have to training my body. Every day, I exercise my mental fitness using Lumosity, a platform of brain-training games that push your brain to its cognitive limits and boost its performance.

You may ask- what does brain training have to do with physical fitness? Part of my philosophy is that a huge portion of fitness is mental- you need excellent focus, discipline, decision-making, problem solving, flexibility, attention and reaction to be at your physical peak.

Study after study have shown the evidence that playing these types of mental games can improve your vision, hand-eye coordination, and reflexes. For example, a study supported by the National Institutes of Health found that post-chemo cancer patients showed significant improvement in cognitive flexibility and processing speed after playing Lumosity games. Players could make decisions faster without sacrificing accuracy, and pay attention to more things simultaneously than average people.

In other words, this “brain gym” can enhance our cognitive capacities to improve other aspects of our everyday life. After all, the brain is a muscle, and must be flexed and exercised just like any other!
