Life Unscripted: Russell on a hard day with COPD
COPD can make you feel like you're suffocating - and that can get you down.
Transcript
RUSSELL: COPD is one of those diseases that make you feel like you're suffocating,
and that can get you down some days for sure. Problem is, once you get to the summit, the clouds set in,
and you can't see the view. Those bad days can really play on your mind if you let them. And so, for me, it's really important, even if I'm
having those bad days, is to have a positive mindset and think to myself, OK, you've got this.
Let's make sure, let's turn it into a good day. Make appointments or try and create an atmosphere of things
you're looking forward to. Phone a friend. If you've got grandchildren, see if they can come over and brighten up your day.
Quite often, that's what I do. We have our medications. We have exercise. We have a number of things to try and manage our disease.
But the fact of the matter is we battle to breathe every single day. We worry about where the next breath is coming from.
Calming yourself down, doing breathing techniques, focusing on your inner self, you always get that next breath.
SUPPORTER: Well done. Well done. You did it. Woo. [AUDIO LOGO]
