So what is RSV? It's a highly contagious virus that causes infections in the lungs and breathing passages.
Older adults and people with chronic illnesses are at higher risk. When you do get sick, can you share how hard
it is to kind of bounce back? If I get a cold, the first thing that can happen is the fear of a lung infection.
They almost go hand-in-hand. They're downright destructive. And every time you have one, you leave a little more damage
behind. I crack and I wheeze. And I-- it's really something that I
wouldn't wish on anybody. If I get sick, it will affect my blood sugar. And it can cause like a chain reaction.
Trying to get back to normal can take, sometimes, months. And it can mean an A1C that's normal at, like, 6,
to one that's, three months later, 7.7, all because you got sick three months ago and your body's still trying to correct.
Do you have any knowledge or any awareness of RSV? I am aware of it. And it does concern me. And it's part of the reason why I still wear a mask everywhere.
I became aware of it, I think, during this past winter when it kind of became part of a triple threat-- COVID, flu, and then RSV.
You know, some of the common symptoms that are associated are cough, runny nose, symptoms similar to a cold.
However, when you have a cold, normally, you're able to clear it in about a week. If you have an underlying health condition such as a lung
disease, you are not able to clear that as quickly, which increases your risk for complications
like pneumonia or being ill longer. So Bob and Tammy, if the RSV vaccine becomes available,
would you consider getting it? I don't imagine there is a scenario where I would not get the RSV vaccine.
Anything that helps prevention, I think, is just a great idea. It's certainly something that I'm
gonna do once it's available. [AUDIO LOGO]
