When heart failure causes fluid to back up into the body, it's known as congestive heart failure. With congestive heart failure, fluid
can build up in different areas of the body, especially around the heart, and the lungs, and in the neck veins, ankles, legs, and belly.
Diuretics can reduce swelling in the ankles and legs, as well as fluid buildup in the lungs
and other parts of the body. If you have congestive heart failure, in addition to your daily medications, as prescribed,
it's important to check your weight daily. A sudden weight gain may signal that you are storing fluid, and your treatment plan may need to be adjusted.
Weight yourself at the same time each day, preferably before breakfast. Wear little or no clothing when you check your weight.
Record your weight in a notebook each time you check it. Call your health-care team if you gain 2 or more pounds
in a day, 5 or more pounds in a week, or as directed by your health-care provider. [MUSIC PLAYING]
