[UPBEAT MUSIC] During my residency when I was doing my cardiology rotation
and I got to take care of patients with acute heart attacks, and I realized
how much of a difference you can make and in such a short period of time, it made a big impact on me wanting
to do not just cardiology, but interventional cardiology. I had one gentleman who came in with chest pain.
He had a blockage in one of the major arteries of the heart. Ideally, this patient should have gone for open heart surgery.
But because he was unstable, I had to treat him while he was on the cath lab table. And we had to put multiple stents in him.
I saw him six months later, and his heart function is back to normal.
He's back in the gym working out. I don't know if I envisioned that when I first joined the training, that I would
be able to make such an impact. It was very rewarding, taking care of that patient.
