You probably will not need to worry about this because Aquasol A is an injectable form of vitamin A. Your healthcare provider will give you the Aquasol A by intramuscular injection or IM. Your provider may show you how to inject the medication yourself. The usual doses for Aquasol A are as follows:

  • adults, adolescents, children over eight: 100,000 units IM daily for three days; then 50,000 units IM daily for two weeks
  • children ages one to eight: 5,000 to 15,000 units (17,500 to 35,000 units for severe deficiency) IM daily for 10 days
  • babies, less than one year: 5,000 units to 10,000 units (7,500 units to 15,000 units for severe deficiency) IM daily for 10 days

These regimens are usually followed by taking oral vitamin A (adults 10,000 to 20,000 units daily, children 5000-10,000 units daily) for two months.
