The most common and effective treatment for a bladder infection is a round of antibiotics. If the antibiotics do not treat the infection effectively, your doctor will need to look for other causes of infection, like obstruction or physical abnormality. For example, the doctor may need to remove a kidney stone or repair any fistulas, which are abnormal connections between the intestine and bladder or in the urethra. These complications may require surgery to avoid further infections.
