What are the long term effects of recurring kidney infections?

Recurrent kidney infections can lead to scarring of the kidney and in some cases, kidney failure. Abscesses can form, infection stones can grow in the kidney and sepsis can occur. If there is high fever and back pain, appropriate imaging (ultrasound, CT or MRI) and a urologic consultation is recommended.
