How do other illnesses affect a urinary tract infection?

Urinary tract infection does not appear to interact with other diseases in the way that high blood pressure and/or diabetes interact with coronary artery disease. However, immune system deficiencies can make all types of infections, including urinary tract infections caused by various organisms, more common and potentially much more serious. Additionally, illnesses such as diabetes can adversely affect the immune system and increase the risk of all types of infections, including those involving the urinary tract.
