What is deferasirox?

Deferasirox is a prescription medication for people who have too much iron in their blood. Generally, this condition occurs as the result of a blood transfusion. Deferasirox tablets should be completely dispersed by stirring in water, orange juice or apple juice until a fine suspension is obtained. Deferasirox should be taken once daily on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before food, preferably at the same time each day. Deferasirox is available under the brand name Exjade.
