What happens when a teen has anorexia?

Daphne Oz
Health Education
Anorexics starve themselves in order to fulfill a desire to be thin. When life gets out of control, anorexics often feel that their weight is the one thing they can take charge of. Their methods of weight loss vary, but the end result, without intervention, is the same: the disease takes over and the victims are no longer in control of their diet. They never see themselves as being thin enough and may diet to fatally low weights unless they receive medical help. Hospitalization may be necessary, and psychological counseling is almost always needed to recover from the disease.
