Rectal cancer is more common in adults past middle age than in younger adults or children. In the United States, about 150,000 people are diagnosed with different stages of cancer of the rectum or colon every year. About 50,000 people in the United States die from rectal or colon cancer each year. Stage 0 is the least serious stage of rectal cancer.
