What causes flaccid paralysis?

Flaccid paralysis is directly caused by damage to nerves or cells. This damage can be caused by polio and by different kinds of viruses like the West Nile virus. Infectious diseases like Guillain-Barre syndrome and the bacteria in botulism can also cause the condition. Flaccid paralysis is usually a sign of serious conditions like these.
