What is Ana-Kit?

Ana-Kit is no longer available in the United States.

Ana-Kit is a fast-acting, injectable medication that is used as an emergency treatment for a severe anaphylactic allergic reaction, such as a reaction to an insect sting, a food, or a drug. It is also used to treat severe asthma attacks. Available only by prescription, Ana-Kit contains two drugs: an epinephrine injection and chlorpheniramine tablets. These drugs are available separately in generic versions. Epinephrine opens the airways in your lungs and narrows your blood vessels; this can counteract some of the effects of a severe allergic reaction, such as low blood pressure, breathing difficulties, hives, and itching. Chlorpheniramine is an antihistamine that reduces the levels of chemicals called histamines that your body produces when you have an allergic reaction. It can help control such symptoms as itching, sneezing, a runny nose, and watery eyes.
