How can I minimize the side effects of Jakafi?

You can minimize side effects with Jakafi (ruxolitinib) by discussing your overall health with your doctor before beginning treatment. You should take the medication, which is given for the bone marrow disease myelofibrosis, according to your doctor's instructions. Get blood tests whenever your doctor orders them, so any problem with your blood counts can be addressed. Do not take Jakafi with grapefruit juice or grapefruit, because either can affect the level of the drug in your blood. If you are on dialysis, be sure to take Jakafi after your treatment, not before. Tell your doctor about all your medications (prescription or non-prescription) and dietary supplements. It's especially important to tell your doctor about anything you take for fungal infections, bacterial infections or human immunodeficiency virus/acquired immune deficiency syndrome (HIV/AIDS).
