Several personality disorders, called Cluster A personality disorders, share symptoms with schizophrenia. Cluster A personality disorders include paranoid personality disorder, schizoid personality disorder, and schizotypal personality disorder. Paranoid personality disorder may appear similar to schizophrenia because a person will have trouble trusting others and may distance himself from other people. People with schizoid personality are also withdrawn, and may prefer living in their own fantasy world. Schizotypal personality disorder also causes people to socially isolate themselves. They may act in odd ways, and have strange speech and communication habits. Schizotypal personality disorder also may include other symptoms of schizophrenia, such as paranoia and delusions. When people have one of these personality disorders, they rarely seek help. Since they have trouble trusting others, it may be hard for them to participate in psychotherapy sessions.
