How often do teens send text messages?

Shawn Edgington
Pediatrics

Statistics from a CTIA Wireless study show that teens ages twelve to nineteen have the highest levels of text messaging activity:

  • Teens average more than 3,000 texts a month
  • Teens average 120 phone calls a month
  • Some teens exceed 10,000 texts a month

Teens use their phones to text much more than they use their phones to make calls. In fact, teenagers keep their phones on vibrate and many never check their voicemail. Naturally, there are those teens that exceed the average, sending several thousands of texts a month without ever making a call.
