What should I know about gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution before using it?

Before you use gatifloxacin ophthalmic solution, you should know the following:
  • Use caution when placing the drops in your eye. If the tip of the applicator touches your eye, contamination can occur.
  • You cannot wear contact lenses while using this solution.
  • For best results, this medication must be applied at the same time each day.
  • You must use the entire prescription to adequately clear up your infection. Do not stop after one or two days, even if your eye appears better, as infection could still be present.
  • You may not be able to use this drug if you have the following: a heart condition, low blood potassium levels, kidney or liver problems, diabetes, tendonitis, a seizure disorder, a central nervous system problem, intracranial pressure, Alzheimer's disease or hardened arteries.
