Are there alternative treatments for oppositional defiant disorder?

There are no approved alternative treatments for ODD. The most widely recommended treatment is behavioral therapy. Behavioral therapy helps parents learn effective disciplinary and coping skills, and teaches children appropriate responses and behaviors. In some cases, medication may be added to behavioral therapy to facilitate treatment for other mental disorders. For many parents, receiving personal support and keeping a positive outlook helps to keep them focused on treating their child.
