How does Celebrex treat menstrual pain?

Celebrex treats menstrual pain by blocking an enzyme called COX-2, which is responsible for pain and inflammation in your body. Some drugs in the same class as Celebrex (NSAIDs) interfere with COX-1. When the COX-1 enzyme is blocked, inflammation is reduced but the protective mucus lining of the stomach is also reduced, which can cause stomach upset, ulceration and bleeding from the stomach and intestines. Celebrex does not inhibit COX-1, which means it carries less risk of severe stomach disorders than other NSAIDs.
