Penicillamine, known by the brand names Cuprimine and Depen, is a prescription medication that acts both as a chelating agent and an immunosuppressant. Penicillamine binds with metals, including copper, iron, lead and mercury. It is used to treat severe rheumatoid arthritis and Wilson's disease, and prevent kidney stones caused by excess cysteine. Penicillamine can also treat metal toxicity such as lead poisoning.
