Side effects of pulse steroids have not been extensively examined, but a study of the use of pulse methylprednisolone in rheumatoid arthritis showed that some people experienced significant bone loss after six months. More recent research of pulse steroids and multiple sclerosis (MS) showed that 15.5 percent of people in the study group had some avascular necrosis of the femoral head (AVN), a condition that can lead to the need for a hip replacement as it progresses.
