Is stage 4 melanoma serious?

Stage 4 melanoma is very serious because the cancerous growth has spread from the skin and into internal organs. Surgical removal of the growth and surrounding tissue, as well as the nearby lymph nodes, may help get rid of the melanoma, but it generally is too late to completely remove all of the cancer. Usually, the five-year survival rate for stage 4 melanoma is around 10%, which means that only 10% of people who undergo treatment for stage 4 melanoma will still be alive five years later.
