What questions should I ask before a kidney transplant?

Questions that you could ask a transplant social worker about your kidney transplant may include:
  • How will the transplant change my life?
  • How will the transplant affect my family?
  • What resources are available near the transplant hospital for people from out of town?
  • How much will this cost me?
  • How much will my medications be after transplant?
  • Will my insurance cover my expenses?
  • Will my insurance cover the expenses of a living donor?
These are just a sample of the types of issues facing a person choosing to have a transplant. Answers to these questions and many others can be obtained during your pre-transplant visit, as well as any other time when questions arise.
