Integrative medicine focuses on the whole person. In doing so, conventional medicine and alternative and complimentary medicine are used to promote health and wellness.
In terms of treatment modalities, everything from conventional pharmacotherapy and surgery, to meditation, acupuncture, energy therapies, relaxation, yoga, tai chi, massage, and nutriceuticals. In terms of conditions- anything goes. All conditions, and even health promotion, can be approached this way.
First, do no harm.
Second, we are whole beings. Body, mind and spirit contribute to health and must be considered as part of the answer when seeking to regain health and wellness.
Third, there are often a number of approaches to resolution of problems. The best choice manifests when the time is taken to fully discuss the options in light of a person's needs, expectations and personal and family resources.
