When do a majority of miscarriages occur?

It appears that most miscarriages happen in the first trimester (in the first 12 weeks, to be exact). It is estimated that this is the case 85 percent of the time. Such early miscarriages are often due to fetal growth abnormalities rather than factors involving the pregnant woman herself.
