High blood sugar can also make healing very, very, very slow. Paper cuts can take weeks to heal in some people with diabetes. Be alert for infection any time you are injured and know that your blood sugar may get wacky. On the flip side of that coin, if your blood sugar gets wacky for no reason, assess your health.
