Human papillomavirus (HPV) can cause different types of cancer, including that of the cervix, vagina, anus, and throat. In fact, HPV is now the leading cause of oral cancer after smoking and sun exposure. We may think this is only a disease of the young; however, we are all at risk. Once exposed, any one of us can carry the virus for decades -- and with the right genetic programing, the virus can activate an afflicted cell and cause cancer growth.
