What herbs can be harmful to the body?

Most herbs are probably harmless, but some cause needless aging. Never, for example, take anything that contains comfrey. This herb is known to cause liver damage. Also, sassafras, chaparral, germander, and pokeroot have been linked to severe and even lethal effects. Since St John's Wort alters the metabolism and effectiveness of over 50 medications, while useful for minor depressions, should not be taken by anyone taking any other medication without checking with his or her doctor first.
