Can I catch dandruff from someone else?

Dandruff is not a contagious condition. The cause of dandruff isn't clear, but it's likely that a person's genes, hormones and stress play a role, as well as the climate they live in. Dandruff is more common in people with oily skin.

Dandruff occurs for a variety of reasons. It has been related to a specific type of fungus called malassezia that typically lives on the scalp in healthy adults. It can occur in association with other health conditions that may be infectious in nature. However, dandruff is not considered contagious in and of itself.
